This Week In School: 4eme and Beyond

This was an okay Week in School, although I still suck at Frisbee! The good news is that it was widely successful Test-wise (apart from THAT Test) but a bit lacking in everything else. I also heard about my future in this College, namely what a crucial year 3eme will be, seen as it will mark the end of an era.

Monday was a bit boring. German finally saw me interrogated on questions like 'What is your least-favourite subject?', 'What Class are you in?' and 'Do you have any sisters?'. Basically it was like the Teacher was interviewing me, and I think I did very well. The rest of the hour was just a few grammer exercises, so nothing to really comment on. Technology was next and we corrected the Test on Communications (how a computer transmits a signal, binary code ect....), which marked another 'win' for me: a 13/15. Then the Teacher announced that there would be ANOTHER Technology Test on Wednesday! That's three Tests in a row now! We had Permanence instead of Art because for some reason the Art Teacher was absent, which was a shame because I had brought some photo's of fluffy to put on my diaporama that represented my life in 12 images. Maths was more exercises, you had to figure out whether a diagramme was proportionnal or not. Maths is the lesson equivalent of a chore now, I don't really know why I write about it on my Blog at all, its always going to be just endless exercise after exercise for as long as time. I mean the Maths Teachers tactic is to keep giving us the same exercise (except instead of Guru Larry's fancy cars it Berts egg problem or some really boring problem like that) and keep repeating it til' the procedure is instantaneous.
The Afternoon was alright, History was now focusing on what France was like AFTER Napoleon was shunted off to that deserted island somewhere in the ocean. Basically things went even thurther down the craphole for the french people. Damn it must have sucked living in those times! French was a bit boring, to be honest it was so dull I can't even remember what happened. Something about 'showing your emotions' in a letter or something?

Tuesday was a mixed bag, and things got really heated in Class. Maths was a bit of a mind puzzle, I started to get a bit lost on this proportionality stuff, and it would only get worse from here on! Then there was the three hours with M. Carre (she teaches History and French aswell as being our 'main' Teacher so we've got alot of hours with her) in which the Class just quite simply lost it. Now I'll be the first to admit that THREE hours with the same Teacher (especially two hours of which is French!) isn't the most 'fun' idea ever created, but my Class did their upmost to completely drain any sense of calmness out of her. History is always boring on a Tuesday morning, but that doesn't mean you have to shout it at the Teachers face! Yeah, if the Teacher wasn't telling off someone off for chucking bits of rubber about the place then she trying to satisfy the constant moans of the rest of the Class:
  •  'Miss! I can't see the writing on the board, can you turn it this way?
  • 'Miss! Now I can't see it, turn it back this way!'
  • 'Miss! can you move the projector this way?'
  • 'Miss! You haven't rubbed out that bit of the board correctly!'
  • 'Miss! Can I open the window in here, its really hot!'
And then there's people who haven't done their Homework, complaining that she still hasn't corrected the Tests from last Week, saying that they didn't revise for the History Test so could they have a re-catch Test or maybe postpone it? And even when she does give us another Test so we can re-catch some of the points we lost they make the same complaints again! And thats without factoring in all the constant gossiping thats going on behind her back, like somebody telling to her friend next to her what she did for the Weekend or is she still still dating that boy ect....ect....EXCETERA! So in order to put a stop to all this she writes a word to their Parents but they just get worse, them calling her a so-and-so under their breath while purposely trying to disrupt the lesson. Now I'm not saying this for all the Class, but its getting the point now where its annoying for both the Teacher AND the people trying to work. They complain that they've got bad Test results when all they did was sleep during the lessons and refused to do any form of revision! I wouldn't be surprised if the Teachers had to take pain killers before they come to our Class! Basically they're a bunch of moaning bitches. So classroom disruption aside, it was still a really boring three hours. The Teacher put Vie De Class in the last hour of the morning so we don't get overly tired of French, in an attempt to sympathise with us but it turned out to be a bad desicion: we were supposed to have been talking about liberty and how it can sometimes be used for wrongdoing but it turned out to be the Class having a laugh, proposing idea's like 'Bring back executions!' and 'KILL SARKOZY!' So for the Teacher the morning was a complete shambles!
The Afternoon was a bit better though, English was a few more grammatical lessons and in German we had to create our 'Ideal School Timetable' in which we could make our perfect school Week. Of course I was quick to eliminate French, Maths, Sport, S.V.T and Extra Maths from the schedule!

Tuesday night was the parents meeting to discuss 3eme. Basically things are going to get alot harder, and tougher. The Brevet is a total of 380 points, and most of the lessons were on 20 points but much to my disdain Maths and French was on 40 points apiece! Well thats my chance at getting a superieur Brevet shattered then! Mme Philippe (our previous headmaster) sent us a long letter which said on how important next year was and that you really have to focus NOW in order to be on top form for next year.

Wednesday was the worst day of the Week, but not necessarily horrible. Sport was the worst yet, Frisbee was just *FACEPALM* When a Frisbee hits you in the face and you STILL manage to drop it onto the floor even when it was practically GIVEN to you then you know you're not cut out for this schtick! Guh, erase that hour from my brain, PLEASE! Technology was the Test on how information and energy carries around a automatic gate system or something like that and it was probably the hardest Technology Test yet if I'm honest. You had five pages to read, which detailed really complicated stuff and then there was a page of puzzling questions to answer...to be honest I'm not 100% certain on this one guys. First failed Technology Test of the year? Good god that would be diastrous! French was even worse than yesterday, to the point where half the Class was sent to the Headmistress and one could be permenantly exluded from the College forever! Somehow the girl/bitch still thought that this was a positive, because 'I get an extra month of Holidays this way!' Now when a student thinks being exluded is a positive, then its seriously time to go!

Thursday was alright actually! I know, I was shocked too! Maths was pretty bad though. I felt a bit submerged by the heap of calculations you had to do just to find out the amount of money David needed to buy his eggs. Well David can go &%$£ himself! Sport was surprisingly okay, but then again I was always in the winning team this time. They never learn though, they keep putting me in goal and I'm consistantly terrible in it! It helped that I was the only wink link in the team, I mean the ball hardly came over to my bit they were so good! S.V.T was us watching an educational documentary on how a baby is born, and it wasn't that bad, no gross images or anything like that. German in the afternoon was alright, we had fun inventing weird idea's for lessons. I noted that the Teacher was really ill but that didn't stop him from coming in, unlike that other one. In Music I scored a really great 15/15 in my last Test and we did a bit of spring cleaning in the Classroom. We were also evaluated on a bit of singing, boys vs girls. Apparently the Results went from 12 to 18/20 so here's hoping I scored high? The song was completely bollocks by the way.

Friday was again alright. History was fine, we're now studying the industrial revolution of the late 1800s. Poor planet earth, the moment we found coal and diesel everything ended for those poor polar bears. I also got my last Test Result back, and of course it was a shining 17/20. French was good, my intimate letter needed alot of rewriting though. Maths was passable, I just keep getting more and more lost on this proportionality thing. The afternoon was the Science Test, Science and English. The Test went extremely well, and I got the Result back this Monday: a 'radiant' 17,5/20! Science itself was alright, we're not doing anything complicated at the moment, we just keep on mesuring the intensity and the tension of different electrical circuits. English was a lesson on the time, which I think the all Frenchies nailed. I mean it isn't hard to say five to twelve now is it? You'd think we're in bloody pre-school!

So this Week was fine, I'm just going through the motions at the moment. Next Week will be a shorter post due to the fact that we're only in Monday-Wednesday.

Doctor Who: The Almost People

Three words: OH. MY. GOD. That was A-W-E-S-O-M-E! The thing I really do love about Steven Moffat's take on DW is its unpredictabilty, I mean did anyone see the little girl regenerating when they first watched 'Day Of The Moon? The term WTF?! is probably best described when talking about the last five minutes of this Episode, but I'll get to that shortly. I want to talk about the preceding 45 minutes and how good it was, because the twist at the end seems to have gotten more attention rather than the superb storytelling before it. That was a really heavy Episode, that took the whole doppelganger plotline and really ran with it. The two Doctor's idea was a stroke of genius (but they would have been MAD to have not done it!) and Matt Smith was rather good playing both of them. It would be bonkers to compare him to David Tennant (year he was the best Doctor no doubt) but I have to say I think I finally fully excepted him as 'The Doc' in this Ep. David who? The Gangers really were the good guys as it turned out, (par one of course) and the evidence was layed bare for all to see and I had conflicted emotions throughout. Your brain excepts the fact that they are merely copies of a great human being but your heart says something different, Ganger Jimmy's sub-plot envolving his son's birthday nailed this emotion for me. There was some head scratching though, the whole Ganger Jennifer vs Ganger Jennifer thing had me really confused, and the sudden turn to evil from alt Jennifer was a bit too sudden. You really felt for her in the last Episode but here she was a straight up MONSTER. No, literally. That thing with the shape-shifting really made me feel scared for once, even if it was a bit of wonky CGI. Another thing that I suppose I can ignore was the lack of development for two of the Human's/Ganger's. The guy that couldn't stop sneezing had no subplot at all and the Scottish/Northen accent guy was worse, in both cases just being killed off with no real character development. Which was I suppose was a change for the best, because it gave time for the other three Ganger's/Human's to be fully 'fleshed' out. If the Episode was longer I think they could have utilised the extra ten minutes to 'flesh' them out a bit more but hey you can't have everything can you? Seriously though, cut back on the number of Episodes and just make Doctor Who an HOUR long for every Episode, because the show needs more time, even in two parters!

Now lets talk about THAT big twist, which was kinda genuis. If you haven't watched the Episode yet then don't under any circumstances read the following paragraph!

In short: Amy Pond was kidnapped a looong while ago and was impregnated (or at least I think she was impregnated) by someone, while being held in a prison cell for nine months hooked up to a Ganger or a 'faux Amy'. So the Amy we've been seeing for the past six Episodes wasn't the real Amy at all! WHAT A TWIST! And one that, I suppose after all the crazy stuff that's been happening, didn't seem to be that much of a shocker. Still it's good to know that TWO of the main questions has been answered. Yes, now several more have appeared:

  • WHO kidnapped Amy?
  • WHAT for?
  • WHEN?
  • WHERE?
  • WHY?
  • HOW?

Yep, things have gotten even more interesting now...WATCH THE INTERNET BURN!!!!!!

So Overall an extremely good Episode, and is now the true champion of this Season so far (and what competition!) with great character moments, shocking twists, cool suspense and a few scares knocked in for good mesure! Which makes it all the more hard for the next Episode 'A Good Man Goes To War' to knock my socks off completely. Lets hope it's the Moff's masterpiece, I don't want the reveal of River Song to be anticlimactic! Anyway LONG LIVE DOCTOR WHO I say!

This Week In School: French Grammar Sucks!

Yes it's this time of the Week again, the bit where I raconte all my woes of the past Week In School. This past Week wasn't as bad as the one precedenting it but I was still unhappily trudging into that miserable School playground. Having said that though, I don't think anyone finds going into School particulary enjoyable! This Week wasn't that bad I suppose, but with the new German Teacher, all those bloody Tests and French grammar I couldn't wait to get back into bed and sleep on Friday afternoon.

This will forever be the bane of my life!

So Monday started off with German, a subject which I was a bit apprehensive about seen as our last Teacher had apparently left without any explanation (after a two month period where she was constantly off sick). The new Teacher is a man, in his 30's I'd say and so far, so good. He was a bit shocked at how little we knew (apparently he knew nothing about the Teacher before him) and we went back to the basics a bit. Of course the Class lied a bit (claiming they didn't know what the question 'What's your name?' was in German!) and took full advantage of the situation by pretending to know less than what they were letting on! But all in all it was a welcome change I suppose. I can't say that the new Teacher is better or worse than Mme. Etore because I haven't really seen alot of him yet. Then at 9.25am was Science, which was another lesson on how to mesure the tension and intensity of an electrical circuit. I'm so far liking how easy it all is, but I still can't get the hang of knowing where to put all those damn wires! Sure its easy to say that the red wire goes into the red coloured hole on the generator but when you keep adding all the switches and the lights (not forgetting the mesuring equipement) its hard to know what the hell is correctly connected to what when its all just a heaping mess of different wires! On paper it should be easy, but of course its hardly like that when put into practise. I need to get my head around it fast because the Test is on this upcoming Friday! EEEK! After Science was Art where I was still struggling to find 12 images that summed up my life in a nutshell. I just don't think that alot has happened in my life to warrant 12 images, heck I can sum up the past three years of it by a picture of a Nerd sat in his bed playing on his computer! Perhaps I should just invent stuff, its not like the Teacher would ever know? Maths was a new topic on proportionality, which was something we did in 5eme but I couldn't remember how the hell you found out if a bunch of statistics was proportional or not. It was hard to say the least.
After lunchtime was the dreaded French Test on the voix active and passive, which I still can't get my head around. Its fair to say that the Test was a complete an utter FAILURE, furthur cementing my hatred for grammar. The world would be a better place without it if you ask me. Then there was History, where we learned that despite the fact that Napoleon became all high and mighty empereur in 1804 (the whole point of the Revolution was to NOT have a single man ruling over everything!) the French people still liked him. I guess they had had enough of fighting at this point, a 10 year long campain for justice can really wear a country out, at least for the time being anyway...

Look who's all high and mighty now, MUHAHAHAA!
Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday. Why are you so boring? Maths was a snoozefest, this time because it was so easy. The Maths Teacher's tactic is to completely run you over with endless exercise after exercise, and by the end you're either even more confused or completely bored because you've basically been doing the same thing for the past hour and you mastered it AGES ago. French started off with the dictation Test (one which I had heavily revised for), and it was mercifully easy after the preceeding day's catastrophe. I hoped that it would somehow even the playing field, perhaps help me regain some of the points I had lost in the grammer Test (which garnered me an awful 6,5/20), and it did just that: I was given a 10/10. The following two hours after that were extremely tedious, as we had to write a fake 'intimate' letter to an invented friend. Yes, seen as we're studying one of the most captivating subjects ever: The art of how to write a letter, it seemed only appropriate that we had to create a sentimental paragraph about our past tales (notice the in-joke there?). My letter was about a boy thanking his grandparents for their wonderful present that they gave him for his Birthday. I went all out, using words like 'gracious kindness', 'captivating', 'glorious', 'my up most thanks' and 'This will live in my memories forever'. I hope it passes when I hand it in to the Teacher this Monday! History was us studying the 'Sacre de Napoleon', a famous painting by Jacques-Louis-David that represented Bonaparte's emperor-hood. Apparently David hadn't created a faithful representation of the actual event because he had not only altered the decor of Notre Dame for the painting, but also drawed in people (like his mother and close family) that didn't actually attend the event. So basically it was his version of a photoshop!
Then came the afternoon, which started with German. Here we were learning questions like 'What's your favourite subject?' and 'What are your Hobbies?'. After that was English, were I passed my 'What did you do during the Holidays?' Test. It was all very easy of course, another pristine 10/10. If it was money I'd be laughing myself to the Bank right now.

This is exactly what I'm like at Frisbee!

Wednesday was better than last Wednesday and it still resembled a turd (but a highly polished one). Sport was...just see the video above but imagine me in that guys place. FAIL! FAIL! FAAIIIIL! Yep, I was at least a bit better at Frisbee this time around, but no-one even bothered to pass me the Frisbee after last time so I spent most of the time running around trying to block their throws. Technology was us correcting the Test that we did last time. It was a welcoming 13/15, but I was a bit disappointed nonetheless (ME WANT FULL MARKS!). That makes my Results for Technology so far in this Trimestre an 8/10 and a 13/15. French was....*SNORE* We worked on our intimate letter a bit more and that was it really.

                                                                            Laugh your ass off.

Thursday took the punch as being one of the worst days of the Week. Maths hadn't changed, and I was struggling to keep my head together without falling asleep! Sport wasn't that bad really....oh of course it was! Basically whenever they put me in goal I probably failed more than the worst goalie in the world and when they put me in defensive position I was kinda alright. I think the thing that fails me are my reflex's, I just don't react quickly enough when the ball is straight in front of me. I mean the ball is at a snails pace and I STILL fail to hit the bloody thing! S.V.T was the Test on Sex-Ed which I can safely (and happily) say that it didn't go well. Now don't get me wrong but I am not learning a womans naughty bits just so I can get a 16/20! This is probably the only Test where I want to FAIL! The afternoon went a bit slow. German was a Test where the Teacher would ask us questions and evaluate us on our answers. Unfortunately I didn't pass because we ran out of time at the end of the lesson, so I will now be evaluated this Monday. In Music we had to write a biography on either Charlie Chaplin or Johannes Brahms and then present it to the Class, which I thought was a bit weird because what has Charlie Chaplin got to do with Music? Anyway I got a 4/5, with the only negative being that it was a little short. A LITTLE SHORT? The 16 people before me all quoted EXACTLY the same text before me (we'd all inherently nicked the same text off Wikipedia)!

I wage war against Napoleon in the History Test! FIGHT!!!!

Friday wasn't bad, it was really quite alright actually. Okay apart from Extra Maths, which was TERRIBLE. Vie de Class had us researching what the meaning of 'liberty' is, and we had to make arguements both 'for' and 'against' it. Okay....Where to start. History was us looking at the influence Napoleon had on French culture, which was pretty interesting 'I s'pose'. Maths was a step-up, somehow I wasn't bored at all! After lunch was the big Test on Napoleon, which at first I thought was a bit tricky (my mind even slipped on a few questions!) but afterwards I checked my Book and it turns out I did everything right so alls well that ends well then! *PHEW* The mere thought of a failed History Test makes the spines on the back of my neck tingle. Lets hope I get full marks! Science was more sciency-wiency stuff, and I still don't know whether I'm going to fail or 'win' the Test yet. And finally it all ended with English, in which at first we were met by a very pissed off English Teacher! He impoved over the duration of the lesson but he couldn't hide the fact that he was seriously grumpy! He was so grumpy that he even gave us a surprise Test on numbers! The French didn't grasp the fact that 1640 is spelt 'sixteen forty' instead of one thousand six hundred and forty!

So that was This Week In School. A Week with problems sure, but it was still sufferable. I can't believe I've still got five Weeks left in this god-awful Week-on-Week boring trash! COME ON SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!!!! I'm tired and bored at this point.

Doctor Who: The Rebel Flesh

Another really good Episode of Doctor Who tonight. And even though it was a two parter, I didn't feel cheated by a 45 minute Episode that was soley designed to lead up to the events of the next one (ala 'The Impossible Astronaut'). No, this Episode had some really good character moments and the concept behind the 'Gangers' was well realised. The first few minutes was a bit 'Huh?' though. Yes this is the Episode where a pile of smart white gunk (which is then turned into a puppet controlled body) develops feelings by copying the traits and personality of their 'original' human counterparts, so its all very haute Sci-Fi then. The Gangers share similiar traits to the Silurians from Series Five, being an enemy that we can sympathise with almost to the point where they're not seen as the enemy at all. Make-up really helped their unnerving appearance, and the scene in the bathroom (although it was a bit of a cruddy SFX job) was still surprising/scary. The 'Jennifer' Ganger is probably the most interesting out of all of them so far (the others aren't really looked upon alot), she seems to punch Rory one minute while taking a shine to him later (almost like she has a major 'crush' on him) and the scene where she is quoting the memory's from her childhood to him is very touching indeed: That scene was the highlight of the Episode in my opinion. Simply superb. There was definitely more emotional weight to the proceedings here, and the story has so far sucked every ounce of drama out of it.

Gone was the humour (for the most part) and absent was the 'light' tone that 'The Doctor's Wife' was so full of. I also liked how none of it seemed rushed, it took its time in introducing us to the idea of the flesh and then executed it perfectly five minutes afterwards. The Cliffhanger at the end I think we all saw coming (the moment we saw the 'independant' Gangers we all thought 'Cor! Wouldn't it be cool if the main cast was cloned too!') but was still surprising nonetheless. Seems like the Doctor has met his match...literally! I can't wait to see how this plot thread is tied up ('Doctor vs. Doctor' or 'Doctor helps Doctor'?) and really makes me excited for Part 2, which is what a first part should do, not just make you feel confused at the end. I bet there's a scene in Part 2 where one of the cast has to shoot the faux Doctor and he/she can't make out which one is the real one! Or perhaps this could be a fitting conclusion to the whole 'The Doctor dies' plot arc? Clone doc goes back in time to kickstart the events of Series Six? Who knows, but its probably a little bit early for that plot thread to be resolved (I was thinking more Series Finale?). Either way its certainly an interesting dilemma. I just want to know how they're going to get rid of the Gangers without it feeling wrong, cos' really its the humans that are the bad guys here, they started it all and its them responsable for this mess. The Gangers should kinda win! But then again you could make the arguement as to whether they even count as people (Almost people?) but if you....ahhhh....now THIS is what I like about this Series of Doctor Who. Really makes you think doesn't it? It would actually be cool if they can both get along with each other but that can't work either because the Gangers wouldn't just reject an entire life's worth of memory's and feelings now would they? They couldn't just leave behind everything they are! But what if their minds were wiped? Again wouldn't that just be essentially murder? As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be an outright 'happy ending' here and thats some good stuff.

So Overall another spectacular Ep from the DW Team, proabably the 2nd best of the Series so far I 'recon (sorry 'The Doctor's Wife). It was everything a first part should be!

This Week In School: The Beginning Of The End!

This Week In School marked the final run on my long, loong journey through 4eme. Why? Because in little under Six Weeks time it’ll be the Summer Holidays! YAY, THREE MONTH LONG BREAK! But it isn’t over yet unfortunately, because I’ve still got half of the 3rd Trimestre to get through. *SIGH* At least the finish line is in sight…Anyway this Week was mostly fine but there was still a few ‘undesirable’ moments, mainly focused on Sport.

The age old question easily answered.
Monday was a bit lukewarm, I kinda drifted through it. German was fine, I really did get 20/20 on that last Test before the Hols. We basically studied a text on a German kid talking about his English correspondent, and had to answer questions on it. Technology was next, and it was a correction on the work we did  the Week before the Week before the Holidays about an alarm system. It wasn’t that interesting but Art was, were our task was to depict important moments from our life in 12 images. 12 images? Hmmm, well their was the time I was born, my first trip to Disney Land Paris…..erm…basically I can’t think of anything major that happened to me between the age of 4-9 years old! What really happened in those Year’s apart from life as normal? But I got 9-15 all sorted! Maths was a bit of recapping on what did before the Holidays, because none of us could really remember how to calculate the consinus of an angle…which was kinda worrying because the Test would be on Friday and I still didn’t have a calculator with the button cos on it in order to not get 0/20!
The afternoon kick-started with French, where we started a new chapter on ‘How to write a Letter’ which is about as interesting as watching someone play football for two and a half hours. French should get with the times and call it ‘How to write an E-mail’! History was a study on the infamous Napoleon Bonaparte, the most famous midget of all time! Now he was ambitious, him and Hitler would get along well. Using the miracle of the Internet (further solidifying the term: JUST GOOGLE IT!) we had to write an essay on the guy, which was actually quite interesting. In fact I was in a specially good mood because I got 25/25 on my last Test (based on the Revolution)! Hmm, I seem to have gotten really good results in both Maths, History and German…I must be on a roll!

French REALLY does this to people

Tuesday was a semi-boring day, and I mostly slept through this one. Maths was more revision on how to….*SNORE* but at least I was getting it right. I couldn’t get the final answer without a calculator though, which was a bit problematic. French was a grammatical headache again, and I was completely dumbfounded. But at least I got the Results from the story I did a Month ago….17/20 for idea’s/story and 4/10 for spelling and grammar (which is quite frankly the best I could hope for). History was on Napoleon’s many triumphs, but we haven’t got to the bit where he really F*cked up at Waterloo yet…
The afternoon was a bit better, in English we had to write up a short essay about what we did during the Holidays that would last about a minute to read/recite so we could be tested on it the following Tuesday (in front of the Class!). Of course I wrote how I went to London BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH stayed with family for a Week BLAH BLAH BLAH....BLAH! To be honest I did it 40 seconds. German was us having to make a text and present ourselves (again) to the Class, you know the general questions like where I come from, what do I like ect... To be honest I found it odd because we already did this thing at the start of the Year...Hmm. I did notice that the Teacher was being a bit too cool here aswell for some reason, she didn't tell anyone off for the entire lesson (which must be a record)! I made sure I said goodbye to her when I left for playtime.

God do I hate Frisbee.

Wednesday was the worst day of the Week, slightly edging off Thursday. Sport was the absolute pinnacle of awful, although I think it was for everyone because we weren't very good at Frisbee. As a Sport, the very nature of the 'Frisbee' can make it unpredictable at times: You're running around the place with your head held up high trying to calculate where the damn thing will go before you accidentally knock over a frenchman half your size doing exactly the same thing! And don't get me started on trying to make the blasted thing go where you want it to go when you're throwing it! Basically if the Frisbee touches the ground, it gets passed to the other team and If you succesfully pass it to another team member five times or get it into the 'winning zone' your Team gets a point. Of course if the members of my Class are bad at it, then I'm even worse. I couldn't catch or throw the disc correctly for the life of me, and so my team just naturally didn't pass it me at all. And get this, the one time I actually caught the bugger I was sent off the pitch for an injury! Yes, somehow catching the Frisbee shed a bit of 'weak' skin around the outskirts of my thumb nail completely off and the Result was my hand being a bleeding mess. For such a small cut it bled alot, its no exaggeration to say that my hand was drenched in the red liquid...oh how embarassing! I CAN'T EVEN CATCH A FRISBEE NOW WITHOUT IT SOMEHOW BACKFIRING! WHY AM I PLAGUED WITH SUCH MISFORTUNE? Yes so I went from being outright humiliated in Sport to being lobbed into a Technology Test, which went mercifully well. I also got the Results from my last Test, a good 8/10 score, which is nothing to scoff at I suppose. The French lesson that followed made me almost weep over how lost I was. And when it comes to French grammar, I really do know zilch about crap! Just thank the lord that Wednesday's are only half a school day!

How I felt during Sport...

Thursday morning didn't shine too bright at all in my mind. Maths was the final lesson before the great Test, and thankfully this time I had the proper calculator required (thanks to a bit of last minute shopping on my part). There were still things that I didn't understand, but I felt more or less ready for the Test. Let's just say I was praying that it wouldn't break my perfect Test run that I'm having at the mo. Sport was like Frisbee, but worse. It would have actually been better if I just stood in the sidelines and did nothing for the whole time, cos' quite frankly I was a burning gaping hole into whatever Team I went in. I was getting in their way, to be frank so I assigned myself to either the goal or a defensive position, and yeah I only effed things up more there! I didn't save ONE goal for some reason (apparently I was so slow I was pathetic) and I might have just as well have been replaced with a cardboard cut-out of myself in defense! When a girl can score several goals, you know you're clearly NOT David Beckham! I'm clearly not a Sports person but now I've had Baseball, Endurance, Ping-Pong, High Jump, Gymnastics and Wrestling so far, I can safely say that the two we're doing right now REALLY takes the punch for being  the worst I've been in any of them. OUCH. S.V.T...well that was just a 50 minute lesson on Womans periods now wasn't it? Y.I.P.P.I.E. It was probably one of the most disgusting lessons yet, if I'm honest! Here we find out that woman seep blood every 14 days or so and that in some parts of the world men cut off a bit of foreskin off their willy in order to satisify their god or have more pleasure in S-E-X. Really puts you in the mood for Lunch doesn't it?
So after Luncheon was two hours of Permanence because the German Teacher was absent again! WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT? Also their was the big news that she's being replaced by another German expert this Monday which put into context why we had to do that whole 'present yourself' to the Class thing now doesn't it? It was all because we're getting a new Teacher! Why didn't she tell any of us though? Perhaps she's not a 'Goodbye' person? Well either way, I don't think any of us will particulary miss her (okay she was alright). Anyway I spent the next two hours revising for the Music Test that was afterwards. I was lucky to get two hours of Perm because it turns out that even after the 3 hours revision I did on Wednesday night not all the facts had really stuck in my memory, and it would be a complete disaster if I didn't get the near Perfect marks on the Test (I have a standard to uphold you know)! So being gifted by an extra two hours of revision time I walked into the Test feeling pretty smug. And it went well, so here's hoping I got another 19,5/20 up my sleeves then!

JUST NOT ENOUGH TIME!

Friday was both bitter and sweet all at the same time. The day got off to a really bad start with Vie De Classe. Basically Vie De Classe is an hour where we have debates on certain subjects, like politics for example or perhaps doing stuff like studying Religion or researching jobs. It got pretty heated actually and its kinda a long story: Basically theirs a girl in our Class that has not had a good time with both her school life and her personal life. I don't know the specifics but apparently she's not living with her parents anymore and the kids in our Class pick on her quite badly (not that she's an angel herself, but nine people picking on one person is hardly fair is it?). So yesterday in Sport she accidentally kicked a football into another girl twice and then the other girl kicked the Football back at her in retalilation ect.... Basically it didn't end well at all and she ended up being taken to the Headmistress because she was so upset. Now the following day things weren't going very well either so she brought the discussion up in Class.....and seconds later she was crying back to the Headmistress after a series of accusations were made against her by a very tempered Class (what turned out to be a simple misunderstanding got a biiit out of control wouldn't you say?). So then the Head had to come in and explain how difficult things are for her and we should stop all picking on her ect...ect...and it took up the WHOLE hour. DAMN! Watching this really rage fueled arguement going on in Class was the equivalent of sitting back and watching fireworks explode! Of course the main crux of the whole thing was whether or not she intentionally kicked the football at the girl (I am personally going with the 'innocent' side because she hadn't exactly had any experience in Football and well accidents happen I suppose. It didn't really seem like her aswell). So yeah things were taken down a notch in History were we discovered all about Napoleon's personal life and what he really thought about himself...which was nothing short of I AM THE ALL HIGH RULING EMPEREUR, I WAS BORN TO BE A GOD! and stuff like that. Then after that was the Maths Test, and I suppose you could say it was somewhat short of a complete and total DISASTER! It wasn't necessarily because I sucked at it (I think everything I put was correct) but just like that French Test (it was a while back) I didn't have enough time to finish it. Literally there was about six exercises in the whole thing but they all required ALOT of thinking and ALOT of calculations. It took me about five minutes alone to work out that in order to find the answer to question 1a) I had to find the answer to question 1c) first! MAD! If you had taken it one question at a time and not bothered to skip and look at the questions ahead you would have been totally lost! In fifty minutes I think I only did a bit more than 60% of it, so lets just hope that the 60% I did was completely right or *GOODBYE! NEEEEAAAAOW! KA-SPLOSH!!!!*
So after the calamity that was the Maths Test things settled down with Permanence and Science. Science was boring but that was only because he had to recap all of the things we did when the Spaniards weren't there before the Holidays. English was fun, we had to use MP3's to record our speeches on what we did during the Holidays and use them to help us memorise it (because you won't be reading it off your Book on Tuesday, you have to learn it). It was a neat idea but I didn't really need the thing (I could improvise one minute of dialogue easily!) and the headphones were kinda crap anyway (I could barely hear anything!).

So that was this Week In School, and although it wasn't particulary a pleasant ride I've had worst Weeks in my opinion (see the first few Weeks in January just before Les Epreuves Communes). Here's hoping that next Week might pick up in the Sport departement...

Doctor Who: The Doctors Wife

Like most of the Episodes this Season, this was largely hyped by the DW fan community. The fact that acclaimed author Neil Gaiman (famous for The Sandman, apparently one of the greatest comic books of all time) was writing this one alone was enough to spark colossal interest from the geeky fanbase. Also, Neil said that his Episode 'Was going to change the mythology of the show FOREVER' which was the thing that got me interested. Also calling it 'The Doctor's Wife' didn't really help extinguish the hype either! Originally this Episode was going to be made at the end of Series Five but because of Budget issues (and you can see why, calling this Episode expensive would be an understatement!) it was pushed back to this Season and was replaced by Ep 11 'The Lodger'. Which was a shame, because I'd have rather seen this Episode sooner. I thought 'The Doctor's Wife' was absolutely fantastic, but the title does seem a bit of a viewer-grab doesn't it? It really should have been called 'TARDIS' because that was what it was all about really! Its weird how after almost fifty years of DW being on telly, we never really got to explore all the different rooms in the TARDIS. For a time machine that is supposedly the size of an entire dimension it does seem a bit odd that we only get to see the main console room for most of the time isn't it? Who knows what could be packed down those endless corridors? They could have spent an entire Episode alone on just the interior of the Time Machine (which we didn't really get to see alot of, if I'm honest) but the fact that the Episode played on the idea of *WARNING MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!* The TARDIS in physical form alone could have been the basis of several Episodes. I mean in this Episode, they gave the Doctor's ultimate companion a voice! And it turns out she was quite stark raving bonkers. The entire Episode was wonderfully mad, brilliantly directed and very flashy. I only wished it could have gone on longer! Right at the start we're hit flat on our face when the TARDIS team land on a junkyard planet in a bubble universe looking for Timelords.

Seen as the Ep was called 'The Doctor's Wife' I assumed that they'd find a refugie camp and one of the Time Lords there would be his Wife but nope, the teasing thought that there are lots and lots of Timelords about on this planet was unfortunately a red-herring and the Episode went in a rather more bizarre direction instead. Shame they didn't follow through on that, but they squandered a good story about refugie Time-Lords for an equally good story about a malevolent life-form invading the TARDIS and forcing the occupants into a mind game (which again could have beared an extra Episode to play with those idea's a little bit more but NO! they again squandered that opportunity) so it wasn't all that bad. I was a bit disappointed that the Ood didn't have much to do aswell, maybe an explanation on why it was there
in the first place? Oh well, I suppose I'm nitpicking. Idris, 'Sexy' or 'TARDIS' was well acted by Suranne Jones but I do think that Helena Bonham-Carter was born for that part, perhaps they couldn't get her? The hints and dialogue they have between each other are the best bits, hinting at 30 different designs of the TARDIS' main console to the Doctor stealing her in a museum (she was an old model) and basically running off with 'her'. It really changed the way you saw the TARDIS didn't it? An entire Season could be about the two of them talking to each other and discussing past adventures and I wouldn't be bored. Onto the look of the Episode, the sets were fantastically designed and the CGI was quite well done as well as being EVERYWHERE (those vistas were amazing). We were quite spoiled by getting another TARDIS console to look at aswell, this Episode had great scope and largely tingled my fanboy heart. This was a real blast from start to finish, and the idea of the TARDIS becoming human was so genuis that I STILL don't know why they hadn't thought it up earlier! And that tear filled ending from Matt Smith was a bit surprising wasn't it? I didn't think his Doctor 'cried' like David Tennant's. And the old TARDIS console! Nice to see that back, but I've got to say I kinda prefer the new version to that one.

So I thought that was a really, really good Doctor Who Episode. Day Of The Moon is still my best Episode of the season so far but this comes a close second. Best 45 minutes ever. Also next Week look's interesting. The showrunners do seem keen on making every Episode an 'event' don't they?

Thor In IMAX 3D

Alot of critics and comic fans alike thought that as a concept, the character of 'Thor' would never successfully work as a big action blockbuster, partly because portraying the cosmic and quite frankly silly elements from the comic Book was never going to a easy film adaptation. I mean the Asgardians are basically one big He-Man rip-off, right down to the weird costumes and silly catchphrases like 'Behold the might of Thor!'. But surprisingly, I think alot of people were caught off guard by the news that Thor is actually a REALLY good movie! Yep, Thor packs in wit, humour, real human drama and dazzling scope mixed with alot of special effects, crams it all into a blender and whizzes it around til' its juuust right. The cast mostly delivers stellar performances but its Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston who really steal the show. And quite rightly so, because they're the two main characters (Thor and Loki respectively). But I suppose there are still a few minor niggles that could be ironed out a bit more:

Firstly, all the scenes set on Earth seem boring and lacklustre compared to the awesome stuff taking place on Asgard, home of the Gods. Not that its bad stuff but Asgard seems so captivating and magistical, whereas the very familiar ground set on our planet can't really compare to it at all. And Asgard takes up a good portion of the movie, about half I would say of its 2 hour runtime, but it still feels not enough. You want to see more of that incredible world, that reality, which I suppose is a good thing. Shame that Earth gets the back end of the stick, but you're constantly going 'NOOO! GET BACK TO ASGARD!' for half of the time.
Secondly, the relationship between Thor and Natalie Portmans character seems really rushed. You barely even have a transition from 'He looks handsome' to 'OMG! I LOVE HIM TO BITS!' They could have at least spent more time on it, surely.
And finally, there's not really alot to Natalie Portman's character. Sure she's quite smart and very capable of looking out for herself but apart from that, that's all she pretty much is as a character. When I look back at the movie that I saw a Week ago in stunning IMAX 3D (although the 3D doesn't add anything, but my god, that sound!) I only think of Asgard, Thor and Loki. I almost forgot she was in the movie to be honest, because she doesn't contribute anything to the main plot at all!

Overall Thor is a near-masterpiece. Ok, its not Inception intelligent, the story is quite simple really but the world of the Asgardians really sucks you in! And it does suffer from a few niggles, but they were a bit minimal I suppose. Point being, 95% of this movie is awesome, GO SEE IT NOW!

The Gone Series: Plague

When I had finished Plague, the fourth book of the The Gone Series saga, I was sad. Not because It was a disappointment, but because I had finished it and it was the last bit of FAYZ action I'll have for at least another year. The Gone Books are by far the best literature I have ever, ever read, and I finished this 600 page book in just under two days. 'Plague' was just as good as the first two Books, and really kept the pace running. At this point the kids of the FAYZ are really F*CKED up in the head, to the point of insanity. There is now a new form of Plague in the town of Perdido Beach that makes the inhabitants cough up their guts...literally. Not to mention that fact that bug parasites are growing inside of the kids and eating them alive from the inside out! Then there's the problem of water supplies (it doesn't rain in the FAYZ and resources are dwindling fast), and the fact that an undead physcopath with a whip for a hand has escaped from his prision. What's worse is the fact that Caine and what is left of his evil group are now living in luxury on a far off island, well away from any of this choas! Yes, desparation and utter hoplessness are strong themes in this Series. The characters ability to even have the will to live are tested in this installment, but there still is the tiny-ist glimpse of hope when Sam finds a gigantic lake with enough water to replemish and save the whole town. Of course I doubt things will be that easy, but after the massacre that was the end of the Book lets just hope that things get better. Now there does seem to be little chance of them reclaiming their lost lives now, seen as if the adults of the outside world were ever to greet them again they'd all probably be sent to a mental institution and probably locked up. But aside from its post-apolcalyptic trappings, its the character's that really do make this Series. The highlights being Lana, Dekka, Sam, Caine, Astrid, Albert and maybe Edilio. I'm surprised Quinn hasn't had more to do, because he was a big character in the first Book but now seems side-lined a bit. I can only assume that Quinn will have importance later on in the run but for now I'm surprised we're still even following his Story. Before I finish pumping phrase into this Book, let me just say that the story about a town of super-powered kids up to the age of fifteen being trapped inside a giant bubble confronted by (what is essentially) a pile of radioactive green gloop is one of the best storys ever told in my opinion.

Overall this is just as good as the first two Books, fufilling what 'Lies' promised and expanding the Character's even more. What I'm amazed by is how Michael Grant, the author of these Books isn't as successful as J.K Rowling or Stephanie Meyers because this is really Class A+ fiction!

LONG LIVE THE FAYZ!

Doctor Who: Day Of The Moon/Curse Of The Black Spot

Well I'm back from my loong British holiday. I think I've probably gained a few pounds from the amount of food I've been gozzling though!  And I do seem to have a bit of catching up to do...

So without furthur ado, here's my thoughts on the two latest DW episodes.

Day Of The Moon:

This Episode hit the ground running, literally! In the first five minutes, it seemed like Moffat had pretty much killed all the main characters: Canton shot Amy in the Valley of the Gods, Rory on the Roosevelt Dam in Arizona, River Song fell from the 51rst floor of a skyscraper in New York and the Doctor was being trapped in the perfect prison made out of Dwarf star alloy! Of course they weren't dead, unless we all forgot the past 40 minutes thanks to a Silent being in front of the T.V the whole time! Actually it was all just a convenient plan so the companions could regroup together without being detected by the Silents. What followed after this was the some of the best T.V Doctor Who could produce, the action-packed battle in the Lodger TARDIS (STILL NOT EXPLAINED!) with River Song kicking all kinds of ass being the real highlight. It had the feel of a gigantic blockbuster DW Finale, except it was hardly final because ALOT of questions were posed and very few were answered. Namely:
  • Who bumped the Doctor off and why?
  • Who is the little girl, who is the father and how can she regenerate?
  • How can Amy be pregnant and not pregnant at the same time?
  • Why did the Silence need to build a spacesuit?
  • Why are there tunnels under the entire planet and what connection do they have with the “Lodger”-style TARDIS console?
  • What has that mysterious eye-patched lady got to do with anything?
  • Who is River Song?
  • What about all the other minuscule questions aswell?
So yeah, thats alot of questions. Lets just hope all the answers are very good because Moffat will be having many DW fans banging on his door if they aren't! I'm just waiting for River Song to just plainly say 'I'm your wife!' in Episode 7 and just watch the Internet just melt with fury. The demise of the Silence was all very clever I thought, the fact that we could have all killed about a dozen of those grim faced buggers today is a bit scary though, effectively making us all mass murderers! Lets just hope the streets aren't piled with their corpses and we just forgot...

So Overall it was a very good 2nd Episode, but even with the premiere to set things up it did seem a bit packed. Heck, normally a story this big would cover an entire season if it was any other show, but Moffat did very well in compressing it into one two-parter. That shock ending got us ALL by surprise didn't it? Effectively making this a prologue of sorts for the mid-Season and actual Season Finale! Lets hope they will live up to expectations...

Curse Of The Black Spot:

Doctor Who and the Pirates! The Episode I was very much looking forward to, was slighty disapointing if I'm honest. Mainly because not alot of the Episode actually focused on the pirating aspect! The last fifteen minutes were very good though. It started off quite well, with the Doctor walking the plank and Amy doing a bit of swashbuckling action (although it was hardly a first class sword fight). But after that it sort of jumbled around the place, and nothing really gelled if I'm honest. None of the pirates were really pirates for a start, they were the very cliched and kid friendly type of Cutthroats. Well except for the Captain, but the sub-plot of Captain Avery (why he turned pirate, the relationship with his son ect...) was barely touched upon and seemingly resolved very quickly, which was a shame because there was a real opportunity for some real drama there. The end result meant that the Pirate aspect of the Story was merely in the background, and half of it was set in a futuristic spaceship! But those scenes in the ship from another timeline/universe were the best part of the Episode by far. Rorys apparent death (AGAIN, but at least he didn't actually die) and Amy's attempt to resuscitate him was beautifully acted. The Siren wasn't that menacing really, but the big reveal was a nice twist that I wasn't really expecting.

Overall the potential for a great mashup between Pirates Of the Carribean and Doctor Who was sqandered unfortunately, and the Episode merely turned out to be a bit filler-ish. The climax with Amy trying to save Rory was great T.V and Space Pirates do spell all KINDS OF AWESOME! Here's hoping we get a cool spin-off. Not bad at all, just a disapointment.
