Thor In IMAX 3D

Alot of critics and comic fans alike thought that as a concept, the character of 'Thor' would never successfully work as a big action blockbuster, partly because portraying the cosmic and quite frankly silly elements from the comic Book was never going to a easy film adaptation. I mean the Asgardians are basically one big He-Man rip-off, right down to the weird costumes and silly catchphrases like 'Behold the might of Thor!'. But surprisingly, I think alot of people were caught off guard by the news that Thor is actually a REALLY good movie! Yep, Thor packs in wit, humour, real human drama and dazzling scope mixed with alot of special effects, crams it all into a blender and whizzes it around til' its juuust right. The cast mostly delivers stellar performances but its Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston who really steal the show. And quite rightly so, because they're the two main characters (Thor and Loki respectively). But I suppose there are still a few minor niggles that could be ironed out a bit more:

Firstly, all the scenes set on Earth seem boring and lacklustre compared to the awesome stuff taking place on Asgard, home of the Gods. Not that its bad stuff but Asgard seems so captivating and magistical, whereas the very familiar ground set on our planet can't really compare to it at all. And Asgard takes up a good portion of the movie, about half I would say of its 2 hour runtime, but it still feels not enough. You want to see more of that incredible world, that reality, which I suppose is a good thing. Shame that Earth gets the back end of the stick, but you're constantly going 'NOOO! GET BACK TO ASGARD!' for half of the time.
Secondly, the relationship between Thor and Natalie Portmans character seems really rushed. You barely even have a transition from 'He looks handsome' to 'OMG! I LOVE HIM TO BITS!' They could have at least spent more time on it, surely.
And finally, there's not really alot to Natalie Portman's character. Sure she's quite smart and very capable of looking out for herself but apart from that, that's all she pretty much is as a character. When I look back at the movie that I saw a Week ago in stunning IMAX 3D (although the 3D doesn't add anything, but my god, that sound!) I only think of Asgard, Thor and Loki. I almost forgot she was in the movie to be honest, because she doesn't contribute anything to the main plot at all!

Overall Thor is a near-masterpiece. Ok, its not Inception intelligent, the story is quite simple really but the world of the Asgardians really sucks you in! And it does suffer from a few niggles, but they were a bit minimal I suppose. Point being, 95% of this movie is awesome, GO SEE IT NOW!
